Case 03 — Website for a youth centre
Jeugdhuis Wollewei
The website of youth centre Jeugdhuis Wollewei in Turnhout: everything you can do there, the free rooms and the ticket shop in one place, in the centre's own colours and tone.
AThe challenge
A youth centre does far more than you'd think: bar nights, Dry Tuesday, low-stimulus pub nights, lunch on school days, workshops, free rooms for music and creative work, an artist platform and help to organise your own event. All of that had to become easy to navigate for young people who are mostly on their phones, without feeling dull or corporate.
BThe approach
A static website in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, built on a Bootstrap template and fully adapted to Wollewei: its own copy, the centre's bright colours, a striking typeface for the headings and photos of the rooms. Every activity and every room got its own page, and on the homepage you filter the rooms by what you want to do.
CWhat it does
-
01
Everything in one place
Eight activities, from bar nights and Dry Tuesday to workshops, each with a short intro and its own page.
-
02
Free rooms
Six rooms, from the recording studio to the creative attic, filterable by creative, music, productive or chilling.
-
03
MIKS and ik.organiseer
The centre's two programmes, for young artists and for anyone organising their own event, stand out on their own.
-
04
Ticket shop
Parties and events link straight to the centre's ticket shop, with a permanent button in the menu bar.
-
05
Contact and opening hours
A contact form, a map and the hours of the office, the rooms and the bar nights in the footer.
-
06
What's coming up
At the top, the site types out slogans and upcoming events in turn, such as the next party.

EUnder the hood
- 01Static and fast
- The content needs no database or server code: plain HTML pages load fast and are cheap to host.
- 02Filtering without reloading
- The rooms are filtered and rearranged with Isotope inside the page, without reloading it.
- 03Made for the phone
- Bootstrap's grid and a collapsible menu make everything work just as well on a small screen.
- 04Motion in moderation
- Sections slide gently into view as you scroll (AOS) and the hero types out slogans and events (Typed.js).
- 05Brand colours as variables
- Pink, purple, cyan and green live as CSS variables in one stylesheet, so the colours match everywhere.
